Troubleshooting
Fix common Pullwise problems, such as no review appearing, webhook 401 and 404 errors, Blocked reviews, permission errors and paused hosted reviews.
No review appears on my merge request
-
Check the webhook delivery in your platform:
- GitLab: the webhook’s Edit → Recent events
- GitHub: the webhook’s Recent deliveries
- Bitbucket: the webhook’s View requests
-
Look at the response:
Response Meaning Fix 401The webhook secret doesn’t match (or, on GitHub, none was set) Enter the same secret in the platform and in Pullwise (SCM → Edit). 404Wrong workspace subdomain in the URL Check it matches your workspace address. 201withignoredThe event isn’t one Pullwise reviews, or the platform is switched off Check the triggers in the guide for GitLab, GitHub or Bitbucket, and that the card says Connected. 201Accepted Wait a few minutes, then check Reviews in the portal. -
Check the platform says Connected in SCM, not Configured.

Check AI has an Active provider.
A review shows as Blocked
The review failed and nothing was posted. Common causes are the AI provider timing out, an invalid or expired key, or the provider rejecting the request. Open AI and select Verify on the active provider, then push to the merge request again.
Hosted reviews stopped appearing
If your workspace uses Pullwise AI, your credit balance may have run out. Hosted reviews pause until you top up. Top up in Billing (admins only), or switch to your own key in AI. See credits and usage.
Permission or 403 errors
The access token can’t read the merge request or post comments. Check its permissions in the guide for GitLab, GitHub or Bitbucket, and that it can access the repository. SCM → Repositories shows what the token can see.
The review only covers part of my change
Diffs over 200,000 characters are truncated, and the comment says so. Split big changes into smaller merge requests.
Auto-approve didn’t approve
All five checks in gated auto-approve must pass, and the token must be allowed to approve.
